Schools across Australia are taking up the challenge to enter a national competition and come up with 3 reasons why Australia should become drug free.
Schools can win thousands of dollars of sports equipment for their school as well as signed tennis rackets from Margaret Court.
All entries will be compiled into a special publication which will then be handed to the Head of the United Nations as well as the Prime Minister of Australia and the Leader of the Opposition.
“We have had over 60 entries to date and expect many more, with the new school term now well underway”, said Jo Baxter, Drug Free Australia’s Executive Officer.
The competition has been organised by the national not-for-profit organisation Drug Free Australia. Schools across Australia can try to win thousands of dollars worth of sports equipment as part of the “Let’s Keep Drug Free” competition.
Tennis legend and patron of Drug Free Australia Margaret Court is helping to judge schools’ entries. During her astounding career she won 62 Grand Slam titles.
To enter, all middle schools across Australia have to do is come up with three reasons why Australia should become drug free. The competition could not be simpler and schools can also win special tennis rackets signed by tennis great Margaret Court.
Dr. Margaret Court said, “We are looking for ideas. Kids are the future. We want to collect the best ideas – and we know there’s a lot of talent out there. This is all about inspiring others. It’s about getting schools to talk about these issues and why we need to become drug free. Drugs unfortunately are a part of life for a number of Australians. Too many people. That should not be the case. We should never just accept drugs. The aim of a drug free Australia is something we must all pursue.”
Other well known names lending support to the competition include Steve Moneghetti, Alan Jones, Kerri-Anne Kennerley, Mark Mitchell, Don Burke, Tania Zaetta and Jess Schipper.
Entries close on 30th May 2007. All winners will be notified. The judging panels – which will include Dr. Margaret Court – will select one winner and two runners up for each state and territory as well as a national winner.
