20 Recommendations for drug policy change set at International Conference on Illicit Drug Use
|
Drug Free Australia Chair, Craig Thompson is extremely pleased with the outcomes achieved at the First International Conference on Iliicit Drugs.
‘To date we are looking at 20 recommendations that will revolutionise Australia’s drug policy. These are from delegates who represented people suffering from addiction or the addiction of a family member.
The areas covered by the recommendations are: - Addiction
- Flawed Drug research – a growing trend
- Education
- Drug Policy and Law Enforcement
Executive Officer, Jo Baxter said: “We fully acknowledge the good work that is being done by the Federal Government, however, there is always room for improvement. These changes will be communicated to all politicians, especially at state level, to ensure: - better service provision to those suffering the devastation of illicit drug use.
- that greater emphasis is placed on prevention, before kids even try drugs in the first place, or if they do experiment with drugs, they will be able to stop without stigma.”
Drug Free Australia now plans to take these recommendations to politicians and decision makers at state and federal level, so that people in Australia will begin to understand that they finally have an effective voice.
A media conference is scheduled for 9 am at the Stamford Plaza, Adelaide today. International speakers can be available by prior arrangement. |
